Little Field

The moment I laid eyes on this field, I knew I was in trouble. Perfect light, a sweet breeze and a scene not often found in the region I live in. I knew exactly what and how I wanted to shoot and could have played for the next 2 hours. But as things like this tend to go, Addy gave me about 10 mins and she was done. Over time, I have learned when to just put the camera down and walk away. This is not always an easy task! The light was fading fast and turning the atmosphere into that soft dreamy light and it was all I could do to keep from bribing her (i already owed her a lollipop!).  So I laid down an old quilt in the middle of this field and snuggled up next to my girl, breathing in the perfect evening, ignoring all the ’shots’ I was missing and just embraced the moment. We chatted about all the colors we could see and how ’safe’ we were on the quilt, away from all the buggies and poky things that she despises. We chatted about the babe in my tummy, and Addy told me I should “feed it” and that when it come out she will be its friend. : ) These little moments are fading as fast as the sun at twilight. The camera will always be there. My need to shoot will never wane but this precious time will be gone in a flash and missed opportunities are perhaps the worst type of regret to have. So, now I am all teary eyed. I will blame it on the hormones!  Maybe tomorrow we can try this again =)

Unexpected Finds

Everyone knows how the internet can suck you in like a vortex, and just because I am ridiculously busy in my daily life away from the computer, does not make me immune. One of the things on my never ending to-do list is to make over Addy’s room. I am  beginning to believe that this will not be accomplished until she is 16, at which time flowers and bids and all things pink will be replaced by boys, texting (yeah- that will be an ancient term I am sure), and …oh, let see, I am sure grades, spending time quality with her parents, reading books, going to church and…..right?!  Well, I digress. So, in my absent minded flittering about the net, looking for little birdie clipart for another project, and other such crafy things for yet another project,…you will soon see how having (undiagnosed) ADD can lead to great things…..I came across these amazing little artsy vinyl decals for decorating your walls. Oh yes! I never did complete my initial task, because after finding the decals I was then sucked into looking at other vintage hand made items, and in the mean time accomplished nothing productive whatsoever. I may have even burnt dinner ; ) Here are just some of my favorites…

See! Are these not amazing? I am sure I could find one for every room of my home. Note to self….add “redecorate” entire home to that to-do list. So, just a side note…is it not painfully obvious that I have a thing for birds? Well, this weeks favorite things is somewhat of an eclectic mix of favorites for me…..birds, bare trees, cherry blossoms, Etsy….and here is where that darn ADD comes in…did you notice the little nursery examples…..gee, I wonder whats on my mind?

Postcards.

fav-pc

I have been collecting them for about 10 years. It’s not just that they have a nostalgic feel…that would be obvious…but I think there is something so beautiful and thoughtful about a handwritten love note or Christmas wish. An act that seems to have been long forgotten. Each card has texture and weight….like the words written on them give them substance and being. Each time I walk by my collection, it’s a little reminder to slow down, to not take the little things for granted…..and maybe instead of texting the kids or my sweetheart, actually take a moment to write my sentiments. So, the next time you are cruising through your favorite antique store and you come across a girl sitting on the floor perusing through the post cards, it just might be me =)
